On a fine Saturday this December, I drove to the mall around where I live. Just imagine my shock at seeing so many cars parked at the mall which was quite uncharacteristic of that particular mall. Stepping in, everywhere was filled to the brim! Then it occurred to me that Christmas shoppers were responsible for all the hustle and bustle that day.
Anyway, I went about my business, looking for the items that were specifically on my list. BTW, did someone tell you that in America, it's easy to just get distracted and buy stuffs you don't need when you step into the mall sometimes. Well, I was determined to not buy 'rubbish or clutter'. Lol
I was done with my little shopping in a short while. But, alas! I wasn't willing or ready to go home. I had told myself I was going to see a movie. Bombshell, starring Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman was showing precisely around that time. So, I went in and bought my ticket at the self-service machine. Then something weird happened. I couldn't seem to find a seat of my choice. There was only a seat available and I didn't want it. I clicked and checked again. Bummer! Same scenario. I grudgingly bought my ticket and walked into the theater. I was stumped! Everywhere was filled up. Ugh!
I found my seat in the middle of two ladies. After about 40 minutes of watching the various movie commercials, Bombshell started showing. Oh, did I state the fact that as soon as Tiffany Haddish popped up on the movie commercials, everyone started chuckling including yours truly? Like a Boss will be showing at the movies sometime in 2020. January 2020 I think...
A question on my mind was why do so many people want to see 'Bombshell'. The movie synopsis seemed boring to me but I insisted on watching it because it was the only movie showing at the time I was gunning for. I soon found out why the movie Theater was filled up.
Bombshell is the story of the CEO and Chairman of Fox News and Fox Television Stations, Roger Ailes. His descent from grace to grass, started when a sexual harassment lawsuit was filed against him by Gretchen Carlson,a powerful woman at Fox. Reluctant to speak up about her own sexual harassment experience initially, Megyn Kelly, another powerful woman, played by Charlize Theron decided to speak to the media at some point and open up about her own experience with Roger Ailes, a man who was respected and seen as a role model at Fox News.
This movie opened my eyes to the cruel reality of sexual harassment at the work place, especially when a woman is trying to get ahead in her career and the power players decide that she needs to do them sexual favors to stand out from the pack of other women who are out there.
The media can't seem to get over the fact that Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman had striking resemblances to the characters that they portrayed.
Have you seen the movie yet? What do you think about it?
I can't wait to see 'Like a Boss in 2020'.
Happy New Year in Advance.
Love,
Deb
