Who or What Defines You?

Sorry,

This is not me posting Pelumi's Memoirs. I'm also not here to talk about Nollywood or the happenings around it.

I want you to answer the question, "who or what defines you"?

Let's take a step back and see what the Bible says in Psalm 82 verse 6. The psalmist says here, "I have said you are gods and all of you are children of the Most High God".  We see two things here:

1. You are a god
2. You are a child of the Most High God

Let's move forward with our discussion. We'll revisit this later.

Society has many labels. Tons and tons of labels by which people and circumstances are labeled. We can start listing them, but I guess you already know them.

In fact, well meaning people unconsciously have these labels as well by which they label people. Society has a mold and sometimes, you just don't fit in that mold. What happens next is you begin to feel excluded. You begin to feel like an outsider. Something also happens as exclusion means you now begin to have a need for validation. "What do they think about me"? "What do they think about my circumstance"? "If only I could prove them wrong"....
It becomes an unending battle in the mind.

And what if you cannot prove them wrong? Shame sets in. Reproach may also set in accompanied by confusion.

"But I was meant to be more than this, I was born for much more than this". Self doubt also begins to creep in to join the myriad of emotions you have begun to feel or been battling with. "Will things ever change"? "Will my situation ever change"?  Do you notice an identity crisis here?

Who created you? They? Them? The others? Who has the blue print of your life? The owner's manual? Them? Who has the final authority over your life? Again, I ask? Them?

In Ecclesiastes 10 verse 5, King Solomon laments about a situation, an evil of sorts under the sun. Servants were riding on horses and Princes were walking on foot like servants. Talk about a major identity crises!

The challenge you are faced with now, those mountains that seem insurmountable are there to test your faith. They are there to challenge your identity as a god. The challenges are there to question your identity as a Child of the Most High God.

Again, who are you? Let me tell you something. The words of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa -
"If your faith says yes, God cannot say no"!

God your father is observing the events of your life like he was observing the events of the life of Job. The cloud of witnesses in heaven is rooting for you even as you walk through this wilderness experience.

And just in case you feel like you have wandered in the wilderness for too long and time has gone by. In case you feel like all hope is lost, Joel 2:25 has a word for you. God promises to restore the years the locust, the caterpillar, the palmerworm , the canker worm and the grasshopper have eaten. Hey you!!! Rejoice! The tide is going to turn.

Lastly, remember the Words of Isaiah 60 verse 1

"Arise, shine for your light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you". Rise up from the ashes, oh ye Sons and Daughters of Zion. Get up from the dust! Toss those labels aside. They are not yours! Did your father in heaven pin those labels on you?

And finally, remember the words of Jesus -

"Peace, I leave with you. My peace I give unto you "...

Because your maker knows you'll need peace to carry you. Your feet must be shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

Shalom!

This season of Easter is the best time for this post. We’ve often bought our identities from events, disappointments & past experiences too but we should always know that even on the roughest, most painful & hardest of days, He paid the price to make us gods! Jesus went to Calvary, all for pretty me!

Ms Onaks, I agree. There's no better time for this post. We have a new identity thanks to Jesus' death and resurrection. We can walk in freedom and confidence because a Price was paid.

A little Update From Me

Hello there!! Happy New Year!!!  I say Happy New Year because I've been away from this blog for so long. :-(  I can't get past the fact that it was the new year just a few months ago. I remember going to church for the crossover service into the new year. It was my first in-person crossover service in 7 years. If you don't know what a crossover service is, ask any Nigerian. :-) 2023 was a few hours away, and my mind ran over the events in 2022. I thought about my wins, like moving to a new state, settling in, getting a job promotion, etc. I thought about how I got sick and felt like life was leaving me to being well again. People went forward to share their testimonies, and I felt I was supposed to be out there proclaiming God's goodness to me. "I'm sorry, Lord," I muttered. "Thank you for everything." A few hours later, everyone said "Happy New Year" with glee and excitement. "2023... Please be good to me." I th...

BIBI - CHAPTER 17

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange was happening to you Several months later….. **** Pere removed his glasses and rubbed his aching eyes. He thought about Nneoma. It had been months since he had seen her. He had reached out to her and tried to see her, but she had refused to pick up his calls. Eventually, she blocked his number, and he saw red. He had had enough. Today, he decided to go to her office to see her. A thousand thoughts crossed his mind. What if she wasn’t at the office? What if she had traveled? “Kade, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said to their office assistant and headed out. “I’m here to see Ms. Nneoma Odili.” He said to the receptionist. “Is she expecting you?” “No.” He replied curtly. “What is your name?” The lady asked. “Pere is my name.” He answered. “She’s not at her desk.” The receptionist said to him after calling Nneoma's secretary. “Wow! But do you know if she’s in the office today?” ...

BIBI - CHAPTER 16

I t was a rainy Monday morning, and Lara was frustrated by all the traffic. That was one thing she missed about London. Fast and reliable transportation that got you where you were going without hassles. She was cranky by the time she arrived at the office that morning. It didn’t also help that she didn’t have a good night’s sleep. She placed her bag under her desk and sighed. Kofo, her admin assistant, walked up to her. “Good morning, madam. Your first meeting with the people from Duchess Group is in forty minutes.” Lara squinted and then nodded. She hadn’t yet turned on her computer. “Thanks, Kofo. Yes, I know.” “Can I get you anything?” “Yes, please. My regular morning fix.” Lara smiled. “Okay, I’ll be right back,” Kofo replied. She liked her new assistant a lot. In the short time since she had known her, Kofo had proven to be reliable. She honestly didn’t know what she would do without her these days. After getting her morning fix, a cup of coffee, and egg sandwic...
