Lala and Chef Fregz

It was a cloudy Sunday morning. With rain and high winds pounding the Carolinas, the weather seemed rather gloomy. Stretching, I opened my eyes and reached for my phone. Hands up if you reach for your phone first before even uttering a prayer of thanks to your creator for seeing another beautiful day. I am definitely guilty of this. My excuse is that keeping my brain and eyes busy will help me stay awake.

Anyway, as I opened the Instagram app, I saw pictures that were basically flooding my timeline. Then I laughed as my heart leapt with excitement. Kemi (Lala) Akindoju and Gbubemi Fregene were announcing their engagement to the world. Kemi Akindoju popularly called Lala is a Nigerian actress. Four years ago, I had watched as she stood beside OC Ukeje as his 'best man'. I knew they were close and I felt a little bad he was marrying someone else. But hey, you love who you love.

Gbubemi Fregene, popularly called Chef Fregz, was someone I knew from afar while we were students at Covenant University. I remember my friend telling me a few years ago that he had gone to Paris to learn how to be a chef. At the time, many of us were aiming for Masters degrees but here was someone going after his passion. I was stumped. She went on to tell me about his love for cooking. Wow, I thought that was amazing. Someone was thinking outside the box and working towards a career that I thought was unusual. Well, the trainings at Cordon Le Bleu...  certainly paid off! Today Chef Fregz is a popular name in Lagos social circles.

The wedding hashtag is #asewereniseoluwa! Powerful, as that got me laughing with joy for these two.  Asewerenise oluwa is yoruba language. It means the work of God is easy and stress free. Here's a toast to love and their union.

This certainly is going to be another 'wedding party'. Mai Atafo is designing Lala's wedding dress. Aunty Funke Bucknor -Obruthe aka Zapphaire events is on the wedding planning. Issa wedding party! :-)

Wait a minute, did I hear you say the traditional wedding is today?

To all my single ladies, know this one thing - Everything good will come.

Cheerio!!!!!

A little Update From Me

Hello there!! Happy New Year!!!  I say Happy New Year because I've been away from this blog for so long. :-(  I can't get past the fact that it was the new year just a few months ago. I remember going to church for the crossover service into the new year. It was my first in-person crossover service in 7 years. If you don't know what a crossover service is, ask any Nigerian. :-) 2023 was a few hours away, and my mind ran over the events in 2022. I thought about my wins, like moving to a new state, settling in, getting a job promotion, etc. I thought about how I got sick and felt like life was leaving me to being well again. People went forward to share their testimonies, and I felt I was supposed to be out there proclaiming God's goodness to me. "I'm sorry, Lord," I muttered. "Thank you for everything." A few hours later, everyone said "Happy New Year" with glee and excitement. "2023... Please be good to me." I th...

BIBI - CHAPTER 17

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange was happening to you Several months later….. **** Pere removed his glasses and rubbed his aching eyes. He thought about Nneoma. It had been months since he had seen her. He had reached out to her and tried to see her, but she had refused to pick up his calls. Eventually, she blocked his number, and he saw red. He had had enough. Today, he decided to go to her office to see her. A thousand thoughts crossed his mind. What if she wasn’t at the office? What if she had traveled? “Kade, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said to their office assistant and headed out. “I’m here to see Ms. Nneoma Odili.” He said to the receptionist. “Is she expecting you?” “No.” He replied curtly. “What is your name?” The lady asked. “Pere is my name.” He answered. “She’s not at her desk.” The receptionist said to him after calling Nneoma's secretary. “Wow! But do you know if she’s in the office today?” ...

BIBI - CHAPTER 16

I t was a rainy Monday morning, and Lara was frustrated by all the traffic. That was one thing she missed about London. Fast and reliable transportation that got you where you were going without hassles. She was cranky by the time she arrived at the office that morning. It didn’t also help that she didn’t have a good night’s sleep. She placed her bag under her desk and sighed. Kofo, her admin assistant, walked up to her. “Good morning, madam. Your first meeting with the people from Duchess Group is in forty minutes.” Lara squinted and then nodded. She hadn’t yet turned on her computer. “Thanks, Kofo. Yes, I know.” “Can I get you anything?” “Yes, please. My regular morning fix.” Lara smiled. “Okay, I’ll be right back,” Kofo replied. She liked her new assistant a lot. In the short time since she had known her, Kofo had proven to be reliable. She honestly didn’t know what she would do without her these days. After getting her morning fix, a cup of coffee, and egg sandwic...
