Behold the face of a woman who is currently changing the face of Nigerian Media and Entertainment. I watched one of the most recent Ebony Life TV movies a couple of weeks ago and I loved what I saw. To date, I still know people who tell me they cannot watch Nigerian movies. They are predictable, overly dramatic.....The list goes on. From the days of Nneka The Pretty Serpent, I have watched Nollywood bloom and blossom. People like Mo Abudu who are making things happen in Nigerian entertainment make my heart do some dancing.
Mo
Abudu became a household name in the 2000s with her TV talk
show "Moments with Mo," which ran for almost a decade
before it became "Moments' .
The media mogul kicked off "Moments
with Mo" with an interview with Prof Wole Soyinka.
During that
time, Mo interviewed an impressive list of guests including Hilary Clinton,
Good luck Ebele Jonathan, President Muhammadu Buhari, Olusegun Obasanjo,
General Ibrahim Babangida, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Professor Wole
Soyinka.
Realizing the
power the media had to change lives and mindset, Mo created two other
shows, "The Debaters" - a show that gave youths a platform
for self-expression and "Naija Diamonds", a show that celebrated
unsung heroes.
Before she
became this celebrated media powerhouse, Mo had worked with Vic Lawrence &
Associates Limited, a human resources development company which she founded in
2000.
The bigger
vision came many years later with the birth of Ebony Life TV in 2013. Ebony
Life TV is a global platform targeted at the youth, with a vision to empower
and showcase their talents to the world.
In 2014, the
network produced "Fifty," a star-studded Nollywood hit.
Their other movies so far include "The Wedding
Party" and "The Royal Hibiscus Hotel.
By the way,
Fifty was one of the first Nigerian movies which I saw on Netflix.
When I look at
aunty Mo, I see nothing but Girl Power. She is a pacesetter who has proven that
anything is possible and impossible is not a word.
To everyone
out there who has a dream, I say go for it. Your dreams are valid! Day by day, I
realize the power in starting small. Don’t wait until you conceive that grand
plan. Start right where you are.
See you at the
top!
Cheerio......
