I scratch my head even as I type this. Today, I want to address an issue- Starting things and not finishing them. How many of us fall into this category of people who are enthusiastic about beginning a project but somewhere along the line, we go off track? We just lose the passion and the drive which we used to have.
If you fall into this category of people, and you need a way out, I'll be sharing some useful tips here.
It’s important to state that being good at starting things is an important skill. However, being good at finishing whatever we start is an even greater skill.
While many people come up with great business ideas, few people actually make a business a success. Many people start writing a book but few people end up publishing one. Most individuals have a dream; few fully realize it -Craig Jarrow (Time Management ninja)
The question is how do we begin to finish whatever we start? You can make a list of all your uncompleted projects, revisit them and identify which ones will make a lot of difference in your life if completed. What do you need to finish?
So after all has been said, how do we begin to overcome this problem or issue, as the case may be?
- Be committed- Yes, be committed. To be committed means to give ourselves to the fulfillment of a particular course.
- Be Focused – The Macmillan Dictionary defines Focus as concentrating on something and paying particular attention to it.
- Embark on realistic projects/ dreams- Yes, be realistic about your dreams. There's no point in chasing after the wind. You'll never catch up with the wind.
- Celebrate your achievements at each stage- Celebrate your success however you choose to .
- Write down your goals and give them a time frame - Write your vision and make it plain, that they may run and not faint. (The Holy Bible). Run with your vision, run with your goals.
- Clear out distractions – simply avoid them. Distractions will take you off-track.
Okay, just so I don’t bore you out, here’s my list of how to finish what you start. I write based on personal projects. I’d be writing something different on corporate projects, etc.
I would love to hear from you readers on why people start something but find it difficult to complete it. Also, I welcome your advice on overcoming this issue.
Have a bright and merry weekend everyone. Like one of my friends loves to write, cheerioooooo……..
